D4 Folding Chair

Sense of beauty, intelligent construction and high functionality. The combination of these features characterizes many of Marcel Breuer’s designs, but especially the folding D4 tubular steel lounge chair with belt covering from 1926/27. In the first Breuer steel pipe catalog, the D4 was advertised as “particularly suitable for ships and sports fields as well as for terraces, summer houses, gardens and garden cafés”. Lightweight and sculptural with its cross-shaped lines, the D4 is easy to fold, store and transport. In 1980 it was added to the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. It is a real piece of Bauhaus history.
