Description
The SOM79 Chair by IKONstudio reintroduces a rare and compelling piece of architect-designed furniture into contemporary life. Originally designed in the 1970s by Charles Pfister for Halston’s studio within Skidmore, Owings & Merrill’s iconic Olympic Tower, the chair exists at the intersection of fashion, architecture, and modernist experimentation. Conceived for an immersive interior overlooking the Manhattan skyline, the SOM79 reflects the glamour and rigor of its original context while remaining remarkably relevant today.
Faithfully reintroduced through a collaboration between IKONstudio, SOM, and Rarify, the SOM79 has been updated with contemporary production methods and materials that enhance durability, comfort, and structural performance while preserving the integrity of the original design. Its refined tubular chrome frame, architectural proportions, and tailored black leather upholstery create a presence that feels both understated and striking—equally suited to residential, hospitality, and workspace environments.
This SPECIAL EDITION has a Red powder coated frame with Red Gretchen Bellinger Limousine Fabric.
